I’m a professional facilitator and planner, helping people in government and nonprofit organizations make decisions through dialogue and strategic thinking.

About

I’m convinced of the value of partnerships rooted in shared goals. Collaborative program development and management with eight nonprofits, the National Park Service, and my own firm offers an unusual—and hopefully useful—perspective for supporting others in their work.

As Superintendent of Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area, I worked to connect coastal islands with an urban population. I was Chief of Planning & Land Resources at Acadia National Park in Maine, and a NPS Park Planner in the Northeast. I have worked in the non-government sector as staff with The Nature Conservancy, Maine Audubon Society, Maine Coast Heritage Trust, and Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.

My consulting work has varied over the years. Last century (Ha!), I worked with organizations and private landowners on developing conservation strategies. Currently, I facilitate group discussion and learning, and help organizations with conceptual planning.

I studied wildland recreation at the University of Montana School of Forestry, earning a BS in natural resource conservation. I hold a master’s degree in human resource education from Boston University School of Education (EdM). I am a trained mediator and the International Association of Facilitators certified me a Professional Facilitator (2006). The National Association for Interpretation credentialed me as a Certified Interpretive Planner (2018).

A sense of place is central to my work and personal life. I’m keenly interested in place-making. My hobby is creating environments where I feel at “home;” always near the ocean.
